The Board has determined that Stenographers currently in service who have passed or may pass the English test administered by the UPSC for the purpose of hiring Stenographers 21-530 will likewise be released from having to appear in English in subsequent exams for the purpose of receiving advance increments. Board decision No. PC-60/PS/OS-4 dated 19.8.1960 directed the Railway Service Commissions to conduct an English examination, and it has been determined that serving stenographers who have passed or may pass this examination should not be required to appear in English in subsequent examinations for the grant of advance increments
