With refer to Home Extract dated 14th July & to a letter from Brigade General Lencrence dated 2nd October observes tha although the late Lieut. Governor North West Provinces exceeded his power in Conferring the rank of Brigade General upon Col. Lawrence the Government has no objection to his returning that rank for the present & arll not take anuy steps which might have the appearance of lavering Colonel launenees authority.
