From Resident Singapore - With reference to Mr. Patullos letter of 13th August last. Transmits copy of one received from Messers Syme & Company of Singapore relative to the complaint of the Merchant that their Trade at Batavia was subjected by the local authorities to disadvantages inconsistent with the letter of the Treaty of 1824. Pier duty exclusively charged upon Foreign Ships and 35 per cent on British & Foreign Manufacture imported on Dutch Vessels.
