With reference to a letter of the 20th October last, transmits Copy of which it appears to that Govt. that there is no sufficient reason for the employment of a Field Officer as Superintending Engineer in the Straits, & requests that Major Faber may be Authorized to return without delay to Madras when arrangements will be made, if desired by the Govt. of India, for his being replaced by an Officer of inferior Rank. A copy of this communication has been forwarded to the Governor of the Straits Settlemennts for his information.
