It was stated in yesterday's issue of the Friend of India Newspaper that a report is current that the bread served out on the 7th instant, to the European Regiment in the Fort and to the Fusiliers on board the Simoon, was poisoned, and that it is undoubtedly true that the bread was thrown into the river. I am directed by the Governor General in Council to request that you will be so good as to inform him whether the bread served out on the 7th instant, or any other day, to the Fusiliers on board the Simoon, was to your knowledge thrown overboard, and if so, whether this was in consequence of any suspicion or evidence that the bread had been poisoned, or for what other reason.
