With reference to your letter no. 34 of the 19th instant, requesting the original attestations of Private R. B. Murdoch, late of the Royal Sappers & Miners, I am directed to request that you will state for the information of this department whether any of the Sappers and Miners have been transferred from the Royal Sappers and Miners to the Company's service, who were enlisted and attested in India, without being re-attested at Chatham; and also whether soldiers, who are entitled and attested in England for service in India, are so re-attested on enlistment in India for any other branch of the service.
