Letters from Major William Vanas, referring to the new rule for the succession of officers to the command of Sepoy regiments, intimating that he returned from leave in Europe in January, 1781, that he served for one year under Sir Eyre Coote at Madras before returning to Bengal, and that he would procure a certificate of his service at Madras were he not afraid of supersession in the meantime.
