With reference to Foreign Secretary's letter, No. 54, dated 10th January 1862, states that in the Central Prison at Nagpore the medical duties are performed by the Civil Surgeon, who also officiates as superintendent during the absence of the Inspector or Prisons on tour recommends the adoption in Oude of the arrangement in force in the Central Provinces as the number of prisoners has doubled since 1861 in the Lucknow Central Prison
