S.E. Rly-Question whether probationary officer whose probation period has been extended from time to time due to his failure to pass the dept 1. examinations should be kept unconfirmed for some more time to ensure his suitability for confirmation in service-Decided that- A probationer can be confirmed in Class I only if he is deemed suitable in all respects for appointment in Class I Service. This implies that the probationer must not only have passed all the departmental examinations but that his over all record must also be deemed satisfactory in all respects. What is necessary is that a decision should be taken will before the completion of the probationary period and if the probationer is deemed fit for confirmation he should be confirmed immediately on completion of probation. If, on the other had, he is not deemed suitable in all respects either because of failure in the departmental examinations or because the general record is considered unsatisfactory, a recommendation should be sent to the Board for extension of the period of probation or for termination of the services of the probationer, as the case may be
