Correspondence in connection with the adjustment in respect of sale proceeds of lost and unclaimed preparation property on hand with the old No. W. and B.A. Railways on 14.8.1947. Decision that N. Rly should drop their claim against the N.W. Rly (Pakistan) on account of unclaimed property on hand on 14.8.47 with the old N.W. Rly. The sale proceeds of prepartition lost property is like any other preparation receipt actually realized in the post partition period. It has been held by the Ministry of Finance that Pre-partition are not shareable with the Government of Pakistan after the division of the cash balances of the undivided Government of India and that such receipts are to be retained by India if realized in India. Accordingly, the receipts on account of sale proceeds of lost property are to be retained in India if realized in India and by Pakistan if realized in the areas of Pakistan
