Read a Despatch No. 75 of 1859, dated the 4th August from the Right Honble the Secretary of State, stating in reply to letter No. 54, dated the 2nd May last, that Her Majesty has been pleaded to approve the appointment of Mr. I. P. Grant to be Lieut. Governor of Bengal. Calls for an explanation of the circumstances under which an allowance of 500 Rs. per month for hause sent has been made to the Lieut. Governor of Bengal since May, 1855, an addition to the provision of a fie residence for His Honor, and directs that the allowance in question be discountinued from the dated of the receipt of this despatch.
