The Commissioner of Benares - In continuation of letter No. 170 dated the 27th Ultimo requesting that the period of Mr. W. C. Turners service as an assistant he deducted from the fixed time allowed for acquiring knowledge in two of the native languages & receive the pay of an assistant & Collector for that period that Mr.C. H. Elliott receive pay as an assistant from the 10th June when be voluntered to go to Mirzapore & assistant the Magistrate to the date fo his being informed of the result of this reference the period being deducted from the time allownced to # the languages Mr. Ellutt is# employed in # The same applies to Mr. d. Inglis & Mr. W. H. Canlfieled from the 3rd July when their service were placed at the disposal of the magistrate & Col. of Benares Mr. Ross also acted as assistant & worked in the artillery since his return from Calcutta & as previous to the employment of the students as assistant they could apply the mselves to their studies from the 4th June the date of
