In reply to a letter of the 15th ultimo states tht a draft under datd 15th March 1839, for the arrears of pay due to the late Lt. Black, 17th N.I.was sent to the late Captain Timmings from the Meerut pay office but there is little doubt thta the money has been irrecoverably by becoming miled up with the insolvement of tht officers observations.
