Acknowledge the receipt of your letter o the 30th ultimo, and to reply that with the exception of giving a number to the hoop, the system laid down in letter no 2 of the 1 of Jany. 1836. now obtain. I will add, that it is impossible , that copper, hoops can remain in use for years and not lose weight or become thinner or that they can be used serveral times for foreing to gether staves , without becoming themselves elongated.
