With reference to a letter of the 28th Ultimo, relative to the account correspondence form which it will be appoint that the Audit Deptt. on receipt of Major Sturts letter of 12th March 1847, last no time in Carrying out the instructions therein contained & should the accounts of the above Regiment still remain an adjusted the accountant Mily. Deptt. is the person to state why such is the case, states that there is neither an abstract Bill Retrachment nor any account of the 55th Foot remaining unadjusted in the Audit Office and sanctions the return of its duty which appear to be inperfectly understood, but as regards adjusting Retranchments or advances the Deptt. of Audit has no Concern whatever it being the peailiar province of Pay Masters.
