Having laid before Government letter no 2548 of the 13th January 1852, I am desired to observe that the duties of a Gomaslah do not appear to demand his beingg ever placed in personal contact with salt although the barrels and unde his charge , It is known to board that guards of native troops were placed over butchers tents of European regiments by g O C C 20th December 1844, and though to carry out a general reduction of guards they were discontinued by g o C C 17th December 1849 , consideration of caste had nothing to do with reduction .
