Letter of 9th May 1856, No. 301, requesting to be informed whether any encumbrance or inconvenience has arisen from the operation of Government General Order No. 875 of 1853, publishing revised rules for the payment of Native Soldiers of the Madras or Bombay Armies while on furlough in Bengal, I am directed to state that the subject has been referred to Officers Commanding Divisions, and their replies which have been received state that in 32 corps no encumbrance has been experienced from the working of the order—whilst in three corps inconvenience has been felt, therefore relative to Commanding Officers of six other corps report that they had no opportunity of judging of its effect.
