Extract from a letter, dated the 12th July, from the President and Council of Bombay, enclosing an abstract of sums expended on account of secret services, presents, gaining intelligence, etc., by different commanding officers during the late southern service on the Coast,also enclosing copies of letters from Brigadier-General Macleod and Capts. Torriano and Carpenter on the subject, observing that the amount for secret services, etc., is very heavy, and requesting the opinion of the Board on the charges mentioned above.
