1947 Industrial Disputes Act 1953 saw an amendment. The Barsi Light Railway Company filed an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the ruling of the Bombay High Court in the case of S.C. (Civil) No. 56 of 1956, which concerned the payment of retrenchment compensation between the Barsi Light Railway Company and its workers. The Supreme Court ruled that there was no obligation to pay retrenchment compensation in cases of legitimate business closure or termination resulting from a transfer of ownership from one owner to another. The Industrial Bey regulations (Amendment) ordinance, 1957, was promulgated on January 12, 1956
