The Ministry of Labour and Employment advised that the deduction from wages made to the Bangladesh Relief Fund was not permitted by section 7(2) of the Wages Act and that there were effective immediately. In light of this, directives were sent to the Railways asking them to assist in any way in order to raise money from the Railway Gazattes and Rly. periodicals, appeals and other publicity materials for contributions that the Fund's sponsors might provide to the Railways. M.R. also clarified the position to Shri Peter Alvares, President of the AIRF
