The C.M.E. and the C.O.P.S. of the relevant Railway shall jointly administer an oral test to special class apprentices at the conclusion of each training session throughout the fifth and sixth years of training, and a written test upon completion at the end of the sixth year. In this exam, the apprentices should receive a score of 50%. Those that fail to comply risk having their training prolonged. After receiving a reference, the Northern Railway said that the aforementioned decision would only apply to the 1948 group if the Railway had not previously employed a written exam
