From Secretary to the Governor General - In reply to letter of 8th Instant. States that it will be better to defer the abolition of the College until a further reference can be made to the Court of Directors is still of the same opinion as to the insufficiency of the Scheme proposed to provide for the instruction of the Junior Civil Servants. Concurs with the Vice President as to the unnecessary high degree of attainment now required by the Examiners and suggests that they be instructed to be satisfied with somewhat less, touching the encouragement for the higher branches of Oriental learning. Proposes that the Home authorities be solicited to sanction a restoration of the rewards formerly held out for the successful Study of the Sanscrit and Arabic Languages.
