The Political Secretary, India Office, informed that there is no foundation for the statement that there has been a general relaxation of the standing order which debars any servent of Government from accepting presents from any native of India in the case of presents made to a member of an officers family, but that it has been decided to interpret in a liberal spirit Rule 2 of the Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1904, regarding the acceptance by Government servants of presents from the natives of India.
