With reference to a ltr. of the 27th ultimo, observes that clause of the g.g. 1st Sep. 1849 dierects every officer borne on the rolsl fof a regt. to contribute to the maintenece of the band of his regt. and states thet the govr. genl. is therfore of opinion that in the 2 cases referred to by the Madras Govt.
