With reference to a letter of the 29th July 1848 report that it is difficult to fix with accuracy an aeraage rate showing the real cost of rum at the different stations of the army state that the annexed statement approximates prettly closely to the actual charges hs ben deduced from a consideration of all the difference expences bearing upon the supply the result being a cvharge of as 15-11/2 per inperial gallon or as 13-3-57 per wine measure gallon as the acutal cost to Govenment or on round numbers exclusive of the Govt. .
