With reference to my letter No. 4083 dated the 15th December, I am directed by the Honorable the Governor in Council to transmit for the purpose of being laid before the Right Honorable the Governor General of India in Council, the accompanying statement prepared in accordance with the form prescribed by the Government of India, shewing the quantity of Salt manufactured within the district of this Presidency upon which Excise duty has been levied, and the amount of duty levied thereon, from 16th to 31st August last, contrasted with the quantity manufactured, and the Excise duty realized within a similar period in the preceeding year.
