In consequence of the operations of the Officiating Agent in the Hill Tracts of Orissa for the purpose of procuring surrender of the refractory tribute paying Khonds of the Goomsur, the camp was attacked. Major McNeilly O.S.P. was killed by a group of the Khonds during an attack on the agents camp at Sooradaomy on the 6th December 1853. Further, to help support the widow and the daughter, a request for a pension is submitted recognizing the sacrifice in line with public duty.
