Copy of a letter from Mr. James Taylor, Assay Master at Fort St. George, to the President and Council of Fort St. George, respecting the coinage of gold bullion received from Calcutta, referring to the remarks made by the Mint Master at Bombay on the same subject, intimating that the gold received from Bengal is beyond recovery unless fused prior to refining and that instead of the gold being sent from Calcutta in ingots it should be melted into bars about 200 toounces each and that these be allowed with dross alternately, the remainder within short scope, and forwarding his opinions of the state of the accounts of gold bullion.
