Supreme Court Judge Elijah Impey's letter dated 13.5.1775 stating that Maharaja Nanda Kumar's religious scruples against pollution and contamination during the period of his confinement in jail were mere pretence which was substantiated by the opinion of several Pandits with reference to the Shastras' point of view.
