Employment and Labour Ministry. The idea is to designate Central Labour Inspectors as supervisors under the Indian Railway Act of 1890 and Inspectors on railroads under section 14 of the Payment of Wages Act of 1936. The Railway Boards position as explained to the Labour Ministry was not in favour of the Labour Ministrys proposal to grant statutory powers to their labour inspectors (Central) as Supervisors under the Indian Railway Act and Inspectors under the payment of Wages Act with regard to both railway establishments and Railway contractors establishments. Separate action was being taken on case No. E(LWA)64001 with regard to the adoption of a Fair Wage clause in railway contracts along the lines of the G.P.W.D. contracts
