In reply to No. 2347, dated 28th September last, states that the income and expenditure of the Straits Settlement in the years 1862-63, 1863-64, and 1864-65, in the Civil and Public Works Department were as noted within, showing an annual surplus varying from upwards of 3.5 lacs 7 lacs of Rupees. Adds that the actual cost of the Military Garrison in the Straits will be stated hereafter.
