Secretary to the Governor General - With Reference to the removal of Mr. C, Shakespear from the Situation of Post Master General States that the object of improvements of the suystem of the Establishment would be best attained by vesting the functions and authority of the post Master General ina Commission consisting of Mr, Stockwell and Mr. A Trotter the former to continue in the office in Calcutta whilst the latter would traverse the interior of the Country on the duties of the Commission Proposes to fix a lower rate of Salary for the Office of the Post Master General and that the principle already adopted in regard to the salary of the Collector of Customs be also extended in respect to the office in question in the event of a junior Civil Servant being appointed toit.
