Extract from a letter, dated Calcutta the 30th March, 1790, from Lieut. Col. R. Kyd to Mr. E. Hay, Secretary, reporting that from Du. Haldes translation of the Chinese treatise on silkworms, it appears that the mulberry plants sent from Canton in 1789 are not of the right quality, stating that the silkworms brought by Capt. Canning have been sent to Mr. Atkinson at Moradbagh, and that the species of the tea plants sent do not produce the beverage used by Europeans.
